Best of 2011 Part II

Here is part rua of the 2011 annual sardless.com best of the best. Be sure to also check out part tahi from Macron1. Continue after the break to find out who my big winners were.

row1's Picks Two thousand and eleven was a bittersweet torrent of musical stuff for me, with dizzying heights and rage filled lows. The biggest low was flying 6000 kilometres to Melbourne, Australia to see DOOM (MF) only for him to postpone the show, seeing Peanut Butter Wolf and James Pants that week did made things a bit better. See below for the highs (actual ratings ignored and order based on reflective feelings)!

5. Atari Blitzkrieg - Super

Atari Blitzkrieg is a hard working dude and this combination of video game soundtracks and modern day hip hop resonated very well with me. Gets an extra merit point for (as usual) donating some of the proceeds to charity.

4. Yeti Beats - This Is Not A Hotel

This album was originally released for free for some reason, sensibly Yeti chucked a $5 price tag on it which still makes it an absolute steal. There is a good variety of sounds and artists on here. But the best thing about it is that it contains 2011's best song! Kool Keith and Yeti Beats - 'Bush Man'!

3. Ice Warriors - Ice Warriors

A great sci-fi/space rap EP that features the pioneer himself, Kool Keith. Hoping for an LP in 2012!

2. James Pants - James Pants

This album was very musical and I found it to very appealing for some reason that I cannot describe. I dunno, just groovy, crazy, sexy, smooth, cool and he seems like he is a nice dude.

1. Count Bass D and Insight - The Risk Takers

This album gelled very with some nice raps and equally nice beats. There is a big difference between the two rappers styles, but that only made for a more interesting listen. For me this is easily an instant and original hip hop classic.
