Adebisi Shank - This is the Second Album of a Band called Adebisi Shank

Without a trace of hyperbole, This is the Second Album of a Band called Adebisi Shank by Irish 3-piece dance instrumentalist robot punk dudes Adebisi Shank is amongst the most unusual and most unique albums of the year. This is not to suggest for a second that this is a bad thing. Just no one else is really doing or sounding like what Adebisi Shank does — i.e. sounding awesome and being great.

The first track on This is the Second Album of a Band called Adebisi Shank, "International Dreambeat," kicks off with an insane mixture of guitar hero riffs interspliced with occasional 8-bit flourishes and what sounds almost like (but surely cannot be) a trumpet interlude, all of which is topped off with heavily vocoded vocals, held together buy some of the tightest rhythm currently available to mankind.  A couple of other tracks on the album, particularly "Century City," "Masa" and perhaps "Genki Shank" hover around a similar happy musical-robot sound. Then there is the delicate dream like "(-_-)" (interestingly the second time a track with that name has been mentioned on sardless),   the tropical/oriental sounds of "Logdrum", or the acoustic cyborg of "Bones" to switch things sideways and keep you interested. The latter three tracks also showcase an expansion in the Adebisi Shank sound since the earlier, more uniform sound of This Is the Album of a Band Called Adebisi Shank and The EP of a Band Called Adebisi Shank. Also, there are a bunch of mystery noises throughout the album that keep the listener guessing, especially as this band purports to be a guitar-bass-drums setup. CLEVER STUFF.

Overall, This is the Second Album of a Band called Adebisi Shank makes me want to get on a plane and take the long, long flight to Ireland to see them because it is unlikely they will ever come see me :( The next best thing to do is hit up the bandcamp page and pay the 5 euros for a copy of the album. You wont hear anything else like this this year.
