Anti-Pop Consortium - Antipop Consortium vs. Matthew Shipp

Anti-Pop meets the jazz pianist in this unusual clash of genres album.

Matthew Shipp is apparently the greatest pianist of the modern age and Anti-Pop Consortium are a pretty good group, so it would seem that this album should be good if not great ... and well it is depending on what your into.

The album is basically a 'free' jazz album with a few rhymes thrown in the mix to attract a younger audience to the scene.
If your a jazz piano fan then you might be worried than rap would stink this album up, but the good news for you is that it doesn't and there isn't even that much rap on it (maybe 25% of the play time is rap).
The raps are far and few in between, they don't hinder the album but they don't really add that much value to it.
I'm not much of a piano guy but the pianomanship (is that even a word?) is fantastic and Matthew is obviously a very talented guy.

The bottom line is that if your a fan of free jazz then you would most likely love this album, but if you were after an Anti-Pop Consortium album then you may be disappointed. I did enjoy the album and like to 'chill out' to it, but I don't think I will be buying any free jazz albums any time soon, nice attempt though.
